Common questions
I can't hear the turn directions.
Check Settings → Voice: "Mute cues" should be off and the volume up. Cues play through your headphones or phone speaker, over your music, and the volume buttons on your phone control them. Silent mode doesn't silence them.
The directions stop when I lock my phone.
Mystery Run needs location access to keep calling turns with the screen off. In the iPhone's Settings app, open Mystery Run → Location, choose "While Using the App", and turn Precise Location on. A blue indicator at the top of the screen during a run means it's working.
It says no routes were found.
The app draws with loops of connected streets. Open country, big parks and waterfronts often don't have enough of them. Try a shorter distance, or search for a start point in a denser neighborhood nearby.
It says it's mapping my streets for the first time.
49 large cities are mapped ahead of time. Anywhere else, the app maps the area the first time someone asks, which takes under a minute. After that it's instant.
The turn came too early, too late, or on the wrong street.
Please tell me: the street, the city, and what you heard. Street data comes from OpenStreetMap, and reports like this are how the guidance gets better.
I went off the route.
The app notices within about ten seconds and tells you how to get back. You don't need to restart the run.
How do I get my runs into Strava?
Connect Strava once. The app offers it after the intro, or you can go to Settings → Strava → Connect with Strava. After that, the save screen has an "Upload to Strava" switch, on by default, and the run posts to your Strava account with its route, time and the drawing in the title. If you finish without signal, the upload waits and goes through the next time you open the app with a connection. Don't record the same run in Strava's own app as well, or you'll get two activities. How do I disconnect Strava?
Settings → Strava → Disconnect Strava. You can also remove Mystery Run's access on Strava's site: Settings → Strava → Manage access on Strava takes you there.
I bought the unlock, but the drawings are still locked.
Go to Settings → Purchases → Restore purchases. Purchases belong to your Apple ID, so this also brings them back on a new phone.
Is the first run really free?
Yes, with any drawing, animals included. After that, one purchase unlocks the classic drawings for good, and the Animals pack is a separate purchase. There's no subscription.
What is the drawing? Can I choose it?
Not the drawing itself. Not knowing is the point, and you'll see it when you finish. If you own the Animals pack, the Drawings button on the Record screen lets you choose which set the app picks from.
How do I delete my data?
Settings → Delete all data removes every run, setting and cached map from your phone, and the Strava connection on it. Runs you posted to Strava stay on Strava until you delete them there. Nothing else about your runs is stored anywhere. The privacy policy is at https://getmysteryrun.com/privacy/
